
Kaui M. Kitashima was born and raised in Pearl City on the
He graduated from the Kamehameha Schools in 1998. While at Kamehameha, Kaui joined the orchestra and played the cello in the 7th grade. This was the same year that Kaui took his first and only year of piano lessons. This started a musical journey that changed his life. As a junior, Kaui joined the Kamehameha Concert Glee Club and shortly there after was asked to become a musician for the Glee Club where he learned to play the upright bass. A year later, he was asked to join the newly formed Kamehameha Hawaiian Ensemble as the upright bass player. In those last two short years of high school, Kaui learned how to play the upright bass, ukulele, and also a little bit of guitar.
After graduation Kaui decided to continue his education at Brigham Young University-Hawaii campus (BYUH). While at BYUH, Kaui worked at the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) in the Hawaiian village where he continued to refine his ukulele and guitar playing. In June of 1999, Kaui was asked to become a musician at PCC. He was excited to learn from a great group of talented and experienced musicians.

In June of 2005 Kaui left PCC to start his career as the sales manager at Watanabe Floral. Several months later, he joined Poly Pride Productions and their show at the
